Greg Ford - Director & Principal Ecologist
Greg is a terrestrial ecologist with more than 25 years’ experience in ecological research, impact assessment, biodiversity monitoring and land-use planning throughout eastern and northern Australia. Along with a broad range of skills in ecological survey, assessment and monitoring, he is a recognised expert on Australian bats, with specialist expertise in acoustic analysis of bat echolocation calls for species identification. Greg has been an active member of the Australasian Bat Society since 1996, having served in the past as President and Vice-president, and received the highly-esteemed award of Life Membership of the Society in April 2018.
Following a successful career in various government and non-government organisations on a wide range of conservation, natural resource management and consulting projects, Greg founded Balance! Environmental in 2010 with the aim of making his unique skill set and ecological expertise more accessible to the wider consulting and natural resource management community. His bat call analysis skills are widely acclaimed, earning Balance! Environmental an enviable reputation for highly professional, reliable and cost-efficient service provision in this field.
Greg also has extensive experience in biodiversity assessment, monitoring and planning, having worked on many projects in the areas of: baseline bioregional survey; flora/fauna impact assessment for mining, coal-seam gas and urban development projects; ecological constraints assessment for linear infrastructure (roads and power transmission); threatened species monitoring for operational compliance; management of protected wildlife in built infrastructure; and patch-to-catchment scale biodiveristy planning and monitoring.
